employee benefits

Vacation

Two weeks of paid vacation per year with increase in vacation based on length of service with the City.

Holidays

The City observes eleven holidays, plus one floating holiday.

Sick Leave

Twelve paid sick leave days per year.

Retirement

The employee contributes 8% to the Public Employees Retirement System (2.5% at 55 and Highest Single Year). Three Deferred Compensation Plans are available.

Medical

The City contributes $255 per month toward the cost of health insurance coverage for the employee.

Flexible Benefits

The City contributes $445 per month in flexible benefits. The employee may contribute this amount plus any of his or her own funds toward medical insurance and/or other available benefit programs. The employee will receive cash (taxed) if any of the $445 remains following selection of benefits.

Employees must participate in one of two dental programs. The City offers AFLAC short-term disability, accident plans, vision care and cancer policies, and two types of Flexible Spending Accounts, Medical Expense Reimbursement and Dependent Care Reimbursement. Certain premiums may be paid with pre-tax dollars.

Other Insurance

Long-term disability group coverage is available at a cost of $12 per month. City provides $10,000 Whole Life Insurance policy.

Medicare

Employee contributes 1.45% of salary. City contributes 1.45% of salary.

Merit Salary

Employees are eligible for annual merit step increases, in 5% increments. An employee may move upward in salary according to the following schedule:
  • Step A to Step B - One year time period between steps
  • Step B to Step C - One year time period between steps
  • Step C to Step D - One year time period between steps
  • Step D to Step E - One year time period between steps

Step increases are granted only for demonstrated meritorious service upon recommendation of the Department Director and approval of the City Manager.

Vacation

Executive Leave

Fifty-one hours of annual executive leave time

Conversions

Management employees may convert up to 20% of annual vacation allocation to cash at full hourly rate while reducing that amount from the vacation balance. They may convert up to 68 hours of accumulated sick leave at 25% of the hourly rate, if 34 hours or less have been used in the current fiscal year and if this will leave a balance of at least 192 hours.

Car Allowance

An allowance of $250 per month paid on the first pay day of the month.

Annual Leave

Eleven hours per month of paid annual leave with increase in annual leave based on length of service with the City.

The City observes 11 holidays per year. Employees shall be compensated at straight time for six holidays per year.

Sick Leave

Twenty hours of paid sick leave per month.

The employee contributes 9% of salary to the Public Employees Retirement System (3% at 55, Highest Single Year and EPMC Conversion). Three Deferred Compensation Plans are available.

Medical

The City contributes $150 per month toward the cost of health insurance coverage for the employee.

Flexible Benefits

The City contributes $750 per month in flexible benefits. The employee may contribute this amount plus any of his or her own funds toward medical insurance and/or other available benefit programs. The employee will receive up to $250 in cash (taxed) if any of the $750 remains following selection of benefits.

Uniform Allowance

Employees are reimbursed up to $1,000.00 each year, by turning in receipts for approved items.

Incentives

The City shall pay an EMT-DC incentive of $672 per year to each employee currently certified as an EMT-DC. Employees who maintain their paramedic status shall be paid a paramedic re-certification incentive of $2,217 per year. Any employees hired after August 2013, EMT and Paramedic Incentive will be a one time payout.

Medicare

Employee contributes 1.45% of salary. City contributes 1.45% of salary.

Merit Salary

Employees are eligible for annual merit step increases. An employee may move upward in salary from Step A to Step A+ with a six-month time period between the two steps. Then from Step B to Step D with a one-year time period between steps.

Step increases are granted only for demonstrated meritorious service upon recommendation of the Fire Chief and approval of the City Manager.
