Benefits & Compensation
Vacation
Two weeks of paid vacation per year with increase in vacation based on length of service with the City.
Holidays
The City observes eleven holidays, plus one floating holiday.
Sick Leave
Twelve paid sick leave days per year.
Retirement
California Public Employees Retirement System (CALPERS) 2% at age 60 or 2% at age 62 formula based upon successful candidates PERS status. The City does not participate in Social Security.
Medical
The City contributes $255 per month toward the cost of health insurance coverage for the employee.
Flexible Benefits
The City contributes $1,000 per month in flexible benefits. The employee may contribute this amount plus any of his or her own funds toward medical insurance and/or other available benefit programs. The employee will receive cash (taxed) if any of the $1,000 remains following selection of benefits.
Employees must participate in one of two dental programs. The City offers AFLAC short-term disability, accident plans, vision care and cancer policies, and two types of Flexible Spending Accounts, Medical Expense Reimbursement and Dependent Care Reimbursement.
Other Insurance
Long-term disability group coverage is provided by the City. The City provides $50,000 Whole Life Insurance policy.
Medicare
Employee contributes 1.45% of salary. City contributes 1.45% of salary.
Merit Salary
Employees are eligible for annual merit step increases, in 2.5% increments. An employee may move upward in salary according to the following schedule:
Step increases are granted only for demonstrated meritorious service upon recommendation of the Department Director/Manager and approval of the City Manager.
ADDITIONAL MANAGEMENT BENEFITS
Vacation
Four weeks of paid vacation per year. Twenty-five hours of annual executive leave for mid-management.
Executive Leave
Fifty-one hours of annual executive leave time
Conversions
Once per fiscal year, a benefited non-management employee with five or more years of service may elect to receive payment and convert 50% of his/her annual allocation of vacation leave to cash at his/her hourly rate. An employee receiving such pay shall receive, at the then current salary rate, pay for designated % of the number of hours of vacation leave accrued less those hours used for the calendar year period. The employee's accrued vacation leave shale reduced by the number of vacation hours for which pay is provided.
Employees may convert up to 20% of annual vacation allocation to cash at full hourly rate while reducing that amount from the vacation balance. They may convert up to 68 hours of accumulated sick leave at 25% of the hourly rate, if 34 hours or less have been used in the current fiscal year and if this will leave a balance of at least 192 hours.
Car Allowance
An allowance of $250 or $500 per month paid on the first payday of the month to certain designated positions.
FIRE PERSONNEL BENEFITS
Annual Leave
Eleven hours per month of paid annual leave with an increase in annual leave based on length of service with the City.
Holidays
The City observes 13 holidays per year. Employees shall be compensated at straight time for eight (8) holidays per year.
Sick Leave
Twenty hours of paid sick leave per month.
Retirement
The employee contributes 9% of salary to the Public Employees Retirement System (3% at 55, Highest Single Year and EPMC Conversion). Deferred Compensation Plan is available.
Medical
The City contributes $150 per month toward the cost of health insurance coverage for the employee.
Flexible Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2024, the monthly allowance will be based on your enrollment tier. The tier amounts are as follows:
Employee only: $800 per month
Employee +1: $1400 per month
Employee + family: $1700 per month
If the benefit plan you elect is lower than the tiered amount, you will be able to apply those monies to flexible benefits.

Employees are reimbursed up to $1,000.00 each year, by turning in receipts for approved items.

Merit Salary
Employees are eligible for annual merit step increases. An employee may move upward in salary from Step A to Step B with a six-month time period between the two steps. Then from Step B to Step I with a one-year time period between steps.
Step increases are granted only for demonstrated meritorious service upon recommendation of the Fire Chief and approval of the City Manager.
